Welcome to The Floral Shirt

Well today is the start of a brand new experience for me - blogging! To be honest I have been a little reticent to start blogging. The reason is that many of the Christian blogs I have had exposure to have been quite negative and have focussed on pulling other people down and criticising other ministries.

I see absolutely no benefit in that and I cannot see how God is glorified in anyway when Christian’s are pre-occupied with and persist in taking the speck out of their “brother’s eye”.

I believe there is room for disagreement and different views on things. I also believe that there is place for these disagreements to be aired in a public forum but not nearly as often as they seem to be. And if we do have disagreements, than are we disagreeing with love in our hearts? Are we making every effort to honour one another in every discussion?

If anything comes from this blog let it be that readers leave feeling encouraged, challenged but most importantly filled with faith in our wonderfully awesome God! If God would give me the grace to do that then I would be a very happy man!

Why the floral shirt? Check shirts are ok; I don’t particularly like stripes; plain shirts are cool but floral shirts they have captured my heart! I love floral shirts because they are colourful and tend to be extravagant – which is something of a picture of God. When I read the account of creation in Genesis 1, the thing that strikes me (most probably above all other things) is God’s lavish extravagance and creativity. “Let the water teem with living creatures” it says in Genesis. There are 32,000 different species of fish that we are aware of – and possibly many species in the deepest reaches of the oceans that we have not yet discovered. 32,000!! We would have been impressed with 500 variations but God made 32,000! Why? Because he could and he is a lavish, extravagant, creative and colourful God.

Genesis 1:21 “So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good” (NIV 1984)
